Poetry's use of our language has an attraction that is difficult to run away from. I began writing poems and the haiku many years ago now as a teenager. I have found the haiku habit hard to kick and especially the quest to write the "great American haiku." I find the haiku focus on life's moments and brief states of being with the words and grammar of one's language a powerful pull on my consciousness.

My work appears with some regularity in a number of magazines and journals. A few months ago Longhouse Publishing in Vermont published my latest chapbook: Sand Over Sand. My big collection, Breath Marks: Haiku to Read in the Dark, appeared 10 years ago. I have yet to find a publisher willing to take on the challenge of publishing my next major collection of haiku.
